This is the second Klarus light that I have purchased and again I am happy with the product. The gen 5 tail switch is an upgrade over the gen 4. Speaking of tail switches, that is why I buy this brand. The other specs - light output, throw, runtime - are at, or close, to industry leading, but what really puts Klarus over the top is the two-button tail switch. It's easier to use. It can be configured such that the big button goes straight to turbo and the little button goes to low (you can click up through the outputs from there). I like this setup a lot. One could argue that the strobe function is not accessible in this mode, which is true, but modern light output is so high that if you need to be tacti-cool (and it can be set for Tacti-cool mode - I prefer outdoor mode) and blind someone (I believe the jargon is photonic barrier) - you have enough candela to do it.
If you have ever seen someone turn on their flashlight in a mode too high, then click the button sending it yet higher, only to panic and triple click into strobe....yea, don't be that guy. Get a Klarus with an easy to use two button tail switch. Big button turbo, little button low. Simple.
Note: The E1, E2, E3 models have the same tail switch, but the staging of the outdoor and tactical modes is different. That is why I bought this model over the E2 or E3
I love the 'Outdoor' user interface because I can access the modes starting at either high or low and then work up or down. So nice not to have to always start on high, or always start on low! Also, I feel it is the perfect size for an EDC tactical light; if you want a smaller light, get one that runs on AA batteries. The one thing I would suggest is to add a second paddle button 180 degrees out such as on the JetBeam TH-15. That would make this the perfect light!
